Cancer Research UK is a hugely diverse organisation which is why we have the opportunity to offer a real variety. We are currently updating and ultimately maximising the value of our programmes so we won't be recruiting a full cohort of Graduates onto our programme in 2020. Check back in with us next year!
This stream works across both Fundraising & Marketing and Philanthropy & Partnerships, nurturing a wide range of skills and disciplines in marketing, fundraising and philanthropy. Over the 2 years you will be involved in a hugely diverse portfolio of work; from strategy setting and building innovative new fundraising ideas to working with our marketing and partnership teams to engage with a range of audiences across the UK, encouraging their involvement with our cause.
Wherever you are placed, you will use your energy and talent to drive our fundraising success.
“The Fundraising & Marketing stream has so far enabled me to gain experience in an extremely wide array of exciting business areas such as corporate partnerships, product innovation & marketing, and strategy development. For me, this variety has been invaluable in helping discover which areas I would like to pursue further in my career, as well as helping build networks across the organisation and develop many new skills.” - Alex Lamburn
Take on this unique opportunity working in the world of charity finance. You will take part in a 3 year programme with 3 year long placements to give you an opportunity to see the whole finance lifecycle each year, so we can support you to study for a professional accountancy qualification and gain the relevant experience to become qualified.
As a Finance Graduate you will have the opportunity to work across a variety of different areas and work with the business to transform their strategic objectives into financial budgets and forecasts, making the most of our donations to fund high quality research.
On this stream you will have the opportunity to work in an innovative environment, in business critical roles, across the 2-year programme. During your four placements you will have the opportunity to; use your skills to keep cancer at the top of the political agenda, research and write for all our key audiences, including the public, patients, health care professionals and key opinions leaders; and apply creativity and fresh ideas to ensure a well-rounded, innovative approach to our communications, shaping the way we interact with everyone.
Your fresh, creative ideas and approach will help shape the way we interact with everybody - from the public to Parliament.
“It’s inspiring working with people every day who are so committed to making a difference. My roles have been interesting and really varied: I started in one of the innovation teams, then I worked on a strategic project for P&I’s early diagnosis priorities and now I’m in the public affairs and campaigns team learning about their role in influencing UK government.” - Jane Dalton
On this stream you will have the opportunity to get involved in a variety of different areas to help balance our strategic priorities with emerging opportunities including: working across a diverse range of teams to ensure each of our vital research projects receive appropriate direction and resource; applying communication skills to build relationships across the research community, and ensuring we stay at the cutting-edge of scientific research; and developing your scientific career away from the lab bench in a dynamic office environment that fosters growth.
By working collaboratively across the organisation, you'll ensure our vital research projects have all the resources and direction they need.
This stream is open to applicants who have a degree in a natural, physical or life science.
"I’ve really enjoyed my placements so far – the first involved developing a strategy for communicating with our researchers, which involved ‘live-tweeting’ from some of our amazing conferences in London and Cambridge. My second role was totally different, looking at measuring and maximising the impact CRUK’s research has on patients. I’ve now moved into a new team which is funding some really exciting research, focussing on detecting cancer earlier to save more lives. It’s awesome for me to feel so close to science that I’m interested in, and could really make a difference." - Tara McKay
On this stream you will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of teams in the Technology directorate. You will build relationships with and understand the vision of teams across CRUK, ensuring that everything we do delivers the most value for both our audience and our organisation.
You will have the opportunity to deliver award winning and cutting edge infrastructure and internal systems. You will work with our talented digital professionals across user experience, content, web development and other areas of expertise to create best-in-class digital experiences and help upskill other colleagues across the organisation. You will gain experience in managing multiple data sources, understand database quality management and learn to use tools that ensure a high standard of business reporting and data selection.
"My current role is in digital production where we support members of the organisation in a variety of areas from improving the experience of our users, to facilitating workshops, to building pages for our website. Everyone in my team went out of their way to help me from the start and I’ve been given lots of chances to learn new skills and work on the projects that most interest me." - Adam Stannard
On this stream you will have the opportunity to develop a diverse range of skills, working in a fast-paced environment. During your two year placement, you will be working within a generalist HR function to gain an exceptional overview of the organisation and develop your business partnering skills. You’ll gain an excellent understanding of how we recruit and develop talent to ensure CRUK can deliver its strategy, along with building your people management and communication skills.
"Becoming a graduate at CRUK has been a brilliant opportunity. Over the last year I’ve build a broad amount of knowledge from across HR and have been involved in some very exciting projects. As a graduate you’re given a huge amount of support, guidance and opportunity which has given me a huge amount of knowledge and experience whilst widening my network. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for my second year." - Caroline Smee
