I have gastro intestinal stormy tumor. I was diagnosed at the age of 17 on May 1997 and have had it ever since, I am 35 years old now. I has been a long journey of intro chemo, pill chemo, study drug chemo, surgery, radiation, and herbal therapy. The chemo I am on right now is Gleevec but it has stopped working and I have moved into a new transition. We are trying to hold out for s new drug called “BLUE” but we don’t have time to wait.
I am in artist and use a ton of art therapy. I have a cat named Ellie. She is almost two years old. I take cancer lifeline art classes that are free so I can bond with fellow cancer buddies. I used to write poetry but i find it is easier to close doors safely when working with artwork than it is with poetry. I don’t take support groups because it is hard to find one where someone has had cancer as long as I have. In all the cancer lifeline classes I have taken, no one has ever mentioned having cancer anywhere close to as long as me. Which makes it difficult to discuss how difficult it is daily, and the depression I get especially with people that had their cancer for only two months.
