VAI Chemotherapy Treatment

30 May 2019 17:44

Just finishing off radiotherapy for Ewing’s Sarcoma in my pelvis, spine and lungs, next step is VAI treatment.

my facial hair and head hair is slowly coming back. I’m hoping that it keeps growing with having VAI treatment.

Has anyone has this treatment? What side effects did you experience

Hello and thanks for posting on the forum,

I am sorry to hear that you have been going through treatment for Ewings sarcoma.

VAI (Vincristine, Actinomycin and Ifosfamide) chemotherapy is a fairly standard treatment used for Ewing's sarcoma.  There are a long list of potential side effects but everyone is so different and not everyone feels the same affect from the treatment. We do have some information on our website about how the drugs are given which you can look at here

There are common side effects and less common one's which you can look at here

Unfortunately with this treatment you usually lose your hair but once the treatment is finished it should grow back.

There is a charity called The Bone Cancer Research Trust.  They have some more information on Ewings sarcoma. This is designed for patients and professionals which you might find quite helpful to have a look at here.

I do hope that this has been helpful.  If you want to have a chat with one of the nurses on the helpline then do give us a ring. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

Best Wishes,
