Urgent referral for suspected endometrial cancer

Just been to my appointment after being referred by my gp on the 2week cancer screening system. Had very heavy periods, very long, sometimes 5 weeks at a time. I’ve had pelvic pain usually on the left hand side and back pain.

the gynaecologist decided he wasn’t going to do the ultrasound sound but just go straight through and do the biopsy and then would do an ultrasound sometime in January if the biopsy didn’t show anything to be worried about. I’ve been so stressed by the whole situation and not sure if he’s thinking that some more is going on inside me. He said that the biopsy results should be back before Christmas and he might need to see me then. He did say it wasn’t normal to be bleeding like this so that’s worried me.

Does this sound normal to anybody that been through the same situation

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Julie although I'm sorry for the reason you have joined us.

I know you're hoping to hear from others that may have been in the same situation so I just wanted to put you in touch with our lovely [@Sundial]‍. I think you may have met her on another discussion already but I just thought I would mention her in this post in case you wanted to talk directly with each other on here.

Waiting for results is always tough, even more so in the run up to Christmas, but fingers crossed it won't be too much longer before those results come through.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Julie

I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer in April 2018. I was referred after three bouts of abnormal bleeding but nothing which lasted more than a couple of weeks.

Im here if you want to ask questions. I’ve sent you a friend request if you would rather talk through private message.

I hope your results come through soon and the news is positive.

  • Hi Louise

  • Yes of course, I have been given the all clear just so you know I don’t have cancer, but for some reason the gynaecologist seems to still think I’m high risk of getting cancer because of the irratic unexplained bleeding and my weight plays a big part apparently being obese which I’m constantly working to reduce. But heyho let’s hope he’s not right.
