Ureter cancer now spread to bladder

11 May 2022 16:49

Ureter tumour removed July 2021. Follow up chemotherapy from November 2021 to January 2022.

CAT scan clear.

Had check up cystoscopy last week and discovered three tumours in bladder.

Consultant planning to shave these off next week.

Very disappointed with current situation as chemotherapy was based on a successful trial.

Wondering what other surprises could show up in different locations.

Hello mofski45

I'm sorry to hear that your recent check-up showed there were some areas of concern. It's natural that you're feeling disappointed by this and worried about the next steps.

We know that dealing with disappointing news and facing more uncertainty can be a really difficult time for many people. Some find it helpful to chat things through with someone who understands and I wonder if you might find it useful to speak with one of our team of nurses ahead of your next appointment? I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice and support that they can as well as help you think about the kinds of questions you might want to raise with the Consultant. If you'd like to speak with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

I hope that your procedure next week goes smoothly. Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

Best wishes,
Jenn

My husband has the opposite problem He was treated successfully with bcg for bladder cancer and he has been clear for 6 years Following blood appearing in his urine a couple of months ago a tumour was found in his ureter Kidney and ureter  removal  not an option as kidney on tumour free side has low function due to previous  kidney stones Consultant reluctant to do anything  other than monitor and laser recurrence whilst it remains  in ureter but it will at some stage get out and the treatment will be palliative

Would you let me know what treatment you have had and the details of the trial

Good luck with you future bladder treatment

best wishes

Wilbert

Hi Wilbert

I only have a single functional kidney.

After surgery to remove tumour my treatment was chemotherapy using gemcitabine and carboplatin over 4 sessions.

The trial was POUT and you can find details online by downloading article from the Lancet. It's a bit technical but contains interesting survival statistics.

Hope you will find something useful in it.

Mofski45.

Had a TURBT procedure and surgeon removed numerous tumours. Now awaiting pathology report (about 2 weeks normally). I expect some form of treatment will be available but the fact chemotherapy was so ineffective that I would be very reluctant to accept more. Hopefully more options will become available when tumour grading is identified.

Hi Wilbert

Just to let you know that my Ronnie did really well on his first BCG. In and out in 20 mins. Did not feel a thing and had no pain after at the loo. So i just hope the next one on Saturday goes as good as the first. He managed the 2 hours and was told to drink after the first hour. We managed to get home in 50 mins so all was well. Thinking of you and David.

Take care and stay safe

Hi my husband has been told that he has cancer cells in his ureta and a small something that after byopsy was unresponsive. Meaning they couldnt say if it was a cancer. Or words to that effect. So he is having a dye CT scan to see if it has changed in any way. The consultant said if it is found to be a malignant tumer he will take the kidney out x the ureta. He didnt even offer treatment if it is. Not happy at all about it but we will see what the CT scan comes up with. He is by the way having BCG for bladder cancer at the moment.

Stay safe
