Triple negative inflammatory breast cancer

Hi All,

im feeling very overwhelmed at the moment and struggling to stay strong around family and friends.  So thought I would try here for some support from people experiencing the same sort of thing.

Here’s my story so far....

im 34 years old and on 19th July this year I was diagnosed with grade 3 triple negative inflammatory breast cancer.

i have had 8 cycles of chemotherapy (weekly Paclitaxel and 3 weekly Carboplatin).  Before my 9th cycle this week I was admitted to hospital with severe shortness of breath. After extensive test it was discovered that the chemotherapy had caused moderate heart failure. My oncologist has stated that I can no long have any chemotherapy (probably ever again)

my surgeon has agreed to give me a mastectomy on my right breast even though the swelling is still extensive. They will also have to remove lymph nodes from the arm pit as the cancer has spread to there. Luckily it hasn’t gone anywhere else.

i can have radiotherapy after but I’m quite concerned it won’t clear everything up. The surgeon has said there is quite a high chance the cancer can return elsewhere in my body.

I have to admit that I’m really scared, especially that they are saying chemotherapy is to dangerous for me. So if it comes back, what treatment options will there be for me?

Sorry for such a long post. Hope to hear from someone soon

  • Hello Joloureid and welcome to the forum.

I'm really sorry to hear about the circumstances that have brought you here. It's understandable that you're feeling scared. I think that many of our members here will understand that feeling of being worried for what may happen in the future.

We have a team of nurses here at Cancer Research UK that you could call to talk to if you think it may help. I'm sure that they would be able to give you some information and support. You can call them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm).

I would say that at the moment it's important to concentrate on what you do know will be happening - the mastectomy and radiotherapy. Try and keep a positive focus, it will help you to get through these next stages of treatment.

Hopefully some of our other members will be along to post their words of support. Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
