Three weeks on from biliary stent

Hi

3 weeks ago mum who has terminal pancreatic treatment and is not receiving any treatment had a biliary stent inserted to relieve symptoms.

We were all prepared for the worse as it's such an aggressive cancer and has spread to the liver and lymph. She had deteriorated so much and was prepared to give up.

But.......She now looks and feels much better but knows this is only temporary. Taking each day as it comes but finding it hard that she was so ill,.....and now seems better than ever, but still has just weeks or months left. I can't believe we'll have to go through the decline all over again.

Anybody else been in this situation?

Xxx

  • Hello HoptPot123

I'm sorry to hear about your Mum's diagnosis although it's good to hear that the stent has made her more comfortable and is allowing you both to enjoy some time together.

It's not uncommon for some patients to feel better after a particular treatment even if their diagnosis is poor. I can understand that it feels hard that, at some point, your Mum's health will decline again.

I can see from one of your other posts that your Mum has been prescribed some medications and I presume that she has contact with the district nursing team or a palliative care team? I'm sure that when your Mum's condition changes that they will be able to support her to ensure she remains as comfortable as possible.

If you want to talk things through with one of our team of nurses at any point you're most welcome to give them a call. They're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040 and I know they'll be happy to listen and offer any advice or support that they can.

Keep in touch HotPot123 and let us know how you both get on.

    Best wishes,
