Together we will beat cancer

8 Mar 2018 14:58

Hi, Am guilty of looking at the web for foods which can help alongside treatment and also restrict the spread of cancer, so far everything i have seen is contradictory. Are there any foods that are proven beyond doubt to help ?, I assume that the type of diet needs to reflect the type of cancer, in this case Kidney - but where can I find the difinitive list, the bible of foods and drinks ?

We have a CT scan next week and then I suppose the first step towards treatment, so am looking at ensuring my wife has all the necessary vitamins and minerals, as well as keeping her strength and weight up.

Oh and any crash courses on how to cook might help me Happy

Hi mark ...  think if any of those foods had been tested we've have heard by now ... though not sure if anyone is testing them ... though on this morning Dr Chris did say some interesting stuff on turmeric and black pepper and coconut oil ... not a cure but may help slow things down ... I've been doing it for about a year because I thought there's nothing there that can harm , so worst case sinario is nothing changes ...

Most people try to eat as healthy fresh food as possible to keep the vitamin high and that can't do no harm eather. . But try not to get paranoid about it ... we all need a treat now and then ..  so proven beyond doubt ... not sure anything is myself .. but I found good support (without overtaking) helped me and being relaxed as much as poss too .. but this is all personal to me ..

Hope you get some other advice from our lovely posters ... as for learning to cook .. can't beat ol egg and chips ...  ; ))  x Chrissie

Thanks Chrissie Happy Your so right about being paranoid over it, most of it stemmed from diving straight into the web in panic mode which made matters worse. Liked the idea of egg and chips though !!!!!!!

A well-balanced diet with sufficient trace elements, vitamins, protein and just enough carbs, fats and starches will always help promote good health - with or without cancer. Boring but true Happy

I just stumbled across this really informative scientific video review - the URL may give away the views of the author though!********/

Seriously the Hairy Bikers have some pretty good, easy to follow, recipes for healthy eating.

Dave your a star !!, did not even consider looking at the Hairy Bikers books, even though we have had some of their recipes in the past - hopefully will be able to find something we both like that is healthy.

Will definitley check out the video later on today, as some information is better than no information and besides it keeps us mentally occupied Happy

Hi are on the right track already in finding proper nutrition. When I was diagnosed with stage 3 c colon cancer 28 or so years ago I did a lot of research. Number 1.... Stay away from any kinds of nitrates, fillers artificial colors, read food labels, stay natural foods as possible. Take natural vitamins, vitamin E with silineum ( misspelled) taking vitamin's before bed, our immunities drop some at night and vitamins help increase our abilities to fight off infections and strengthen our white count to fight cancer cells. Take daily fast (not jogging) long walks even when its freezing outside. I am not saying this is a cure but it gives your body a fighting chance. Preserved foods are not best. Steam cook all veggies. Eat less beef. No fried foods, low fat diet no more than 35 grams a day less is best, 35 grams fiber, 100 percent whole wheat bread, first ingredient should be whole wheat not enriched whole wheat. Drink 8-10 glasses of water daily. I hope I wasn't too wordy. Hope I helped.

Hi Nanaof8.

I can't help thinking that even if your diet doesn't actually make you live longer, that with no fried foods it's sure going to seem like it Grin

I am glad you mentioned turmeric and black pepper.  My son just mentioned that to me yesterday.  I need to read up what kind of turmeric, as sometimes it's not the spices from a grocery store shelf which is usually not pure. At least not here in the states.
