Starting chemo.. what food and drinks can you have

11 Feb 2019 00:00

Hey guys

I've just recently only last week been diagnosed with TNBC with treatment of chemo, Surgery and radiotherapy, I'm just 26, just wondered if anyone has had chemo before? And just wanted to know what kind of food and drinks you can have?

Many thanks

Be careful of yougart (live bacteria) makes you sick. Most other foods taste like cardboard, drink ginger ale it seems to keep its taste. If not sure have a small taste 1st, good luck I've been through it & I've got to again soon.

High , most people are not to ill having chemo its normally 4or5 days after when it hits you, some are OK all way through. I'm normally sick for about a week +but if you want to check on me check on billygoat on prostate cancer and living with cancer. Oh you have to be careful about cheese as well

Talk to your care team, advice may vary from one type of chemo to another.

My oncologist was rather jolly about it I'm afraid, he just said I should eat whatever I could keep down but avoid the things others have mentioned.

The list of side effects is always a scary read but remember that not everyone experiences all of them, nor all of the time.

I found it helped to keep a diary of my weight as I was told there was a risk of losing weight rapidly.

Most people find starting chemo to be an anti-climax - if you're having infusions take a book, a Kindle or some music with you as there's a lot of sitting around feeling bored!

Good luck!
