Stage 4 bowel cancer spread to liver

my dad has recently been diagnosed at the age of 62 with stage 4 bowel cancer which has spread to the liver. He has had an operation to remove the primary cancer in his bowel but we have been told the cancer in the liver isn’t curable and that chemo will be offered to prolong life. At the age of 23 this is super difficult to get your head around emotionally and with so many unknowns still it’s tough on everyone. Looking to hear of any other experiences with this kind of cancer and what the treatment entailed/what to expect? Thanks

  • Hi Alex,

I'm really sorry that the cancer in your dad's liver isn't curable.

As you've said, it is a lot for someone to get their head around, even more so at the tender age of 23, but we have many members here who know what it's like to be in this position and hopefully some of them will reply soon to share their experiences with you.

We do have some general information about advanced bowel cancer on our website just here but do give our cancer nurses a call if you'd like to discuss your dad's situation in more detail. Their number is 0808 800 4040 and lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m

    Kind regards,
