Sore head

has anyone experienced a sore head whilst their hair is falling out? I am finding it difficult to sleep due to the discomfort. Has anyone a handy hint which may help?

  • Hi Kathleen68. Welcome to the forum.

Apart from the nurses, we're not actually medically qualified, so I don't think any of us can even venture a guess what might be causing this.

You really should go and speak to your GP, who will probably identify the cause immediately. I also recommend you don't Google your symptoms - you very rarely get a useful answer, and most of the time you end up scaring yourself silly.

For what it's worth (since I'm not medically qualified), I don't think that hair loss is likely to be an indication of an undiagnosed cancer; those cancer patient who lose their hair do so as a side effect of the treatment.

  • Hello and welcome to Cancer Chat, Kathleen68.

Looking at the information you've provided on your profile, it says you have ovarian cancer and you've been through a couple of rounds of chemo, which is causing scalp soreness. I'm sorry to hear that, it does sound uncomfortable and must be very difficult when trying to sleep.

I came across a similar post from someone about a year or so ago which has a reply from one of our nurses, Julia, which I'm sharing here in case it's of some help: Scalp soreness

Quite a few Cancer Chat members are having chemotherapy at the moment, so hopefully they will be able to share tips on what's working for them. In the meantime, if you have any questions, our nurse team are here to talk: 0808 800 4040 (Mon to Fri, 9am to 5pm).

    With best wishes,
