I have been in your situation before so I thought this may be useful for you. Im now 25 and have been given a smear but when I was 24 I had a few symptoms that I was worried about. The GP firstly checked I didnt have an STI or Thrush but once these came back clear, she mentioned how she couldnt give me a smear due to not being 25 at the time. However, if you have got symptoms then the GP can send you to get it checked by a specialist at the hospital. For example, I was sent to have a Colposcopy at the age of 24, which I think is usually the step after having a smear anyway. 

My results came back all fine luckily and the symptoms were due to my contraceptive implant. 

Hope this helps because the GP can send you for further tests if needed.

Thanks so much for your response! I'm also on the contraceptive implant and have thought it might be an issue related to that. I'll head back to my GP and see what they can do. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one rejected for a smear. Thanks so much xx

Hi I know this is really late and I hope you're able to reply. I'm 19 and have the implant. I have been bleeding constantly for months but I know I will be refused a smear because of my age. I have a doctors appointment booked for Thursday. Was your issue irregular bleeding too?
