Small lump in right armpit

5 Nov 2019 13:47

Hi

Never been on anything like this but am suffering severe anxiety. Wake up thinking I am dying. Tensed up and shivering all day and finding it hard to eat. I found a small lump under my right armpit. Went to the doc and she was surprised I even found it. Not really sure what my armpits usually feel like as never check there. She said when she touched it it disappeared and was hard to find. She said she would usually wait two weeks to refer but saw I was nervous. It’s much smaller than a pea and moves or rolls away when I touch it. You would not find it if you used flat of fingers. It’s not painful. I picked up on it when I was rolling my deodorant. I had a mammogramme three months ago and that came back clear. I have been googling and feel sick. I have been waiting a week and have another to go. Feel paralysed with fear and just can’t control it. Have been doing mindfulness but it’s hard. Does a mammogramme take an image of the top of the breast going into the armpit? I am 51 and periods stopped 3 years ago. No history of breast cancer. Don’t smoke or dink. Vegetarian. Annoyingly most the post in this subject in here never have an outcome. I have lost two stone recently in WW so maybe that is why Inhavnt felt it before when rolling deodorant. Any advice anyone? Thanks

Hi there, I know how ur feeling as  I too found a lump under my armpit last month and I caused myself so much worry and upset that I made myself ill, I couldn’t sleep and  I kept crying thinking the worst, all because of the horror story’s I read on google! My lump was small but hard and immobile, which google said was the worst kind to find! So this worried me even more. So I made a doctors appointment thinking they would refer me to the breast clinic and I was dreading the horrible wait!! ........... but as soon as I went to the doctors she felt my lump and said it’s just a blocked pore caused by sweating or deodorant etc. She said it was nothing to worry about but I was still constantly feeling it and worrying that maybe the doctor got it wrong, but a few week later and I barely feel anything phewwww!!! The relief knowing it had nearly gone is unreal. Finding a lump is always scary but most of the time they do not mean cancer!! Especially if yours is moveable, obviously get it checked out just to put ur mind at risk but trust me it’s probably nothing! There’s so many things that can cause them, and it’s unlikely to be the worst! Xx

Thanks for answering me. That is really reassuring. What a relief for you. I have been to the breast clinic before because a weird lumpy bit had a mammo and it turned out fine. Feel more nervous this time though. I get much more anxious nowadays. It’s awful. Glad I posted in here as was very hesitant xxx

I’m an anxious person too, and I’m only 31 but u read so many scary stories it’s hard not to panic when we feel lumps and bumps.......honestly I wouldn’t worry too much, especially as ur mammogram was clear not long ago. Breast cancer doesn’t start under the armpit, a cancerous lump under the armpit would mean the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes so even if yours was cancer it would of definitely of been picked up on the mammogram by now as it would mean it would be far on! ....... they say moveable lumps arnt as much as a worry as the immobile ones, mine would budge so imagine how scared I was! Lol ....... what did the doc do? Are they referring you? Xx

Hi

Thanks for answering. Yes I have been referred to the breast clinic for Mon 11th Nov. I wasn’t sure if the mammogramme takes an image of the top if breast near the armpit? Doc was going to wait for two weeks but saw I was anxious so we discussed and she said ok lets book it. She did say she doesn’t really know how I found it but now I had Inhad to get it checked. The clear mammogramme keeps me grounded and the fact it is moveable. I have to just keep repeating that to myself. Yes I can imagine your really were scared. Horrible feeling. My family don’t get it as they don’t get anxious

I’m not sure but even if it does not take an image of the underarm area it would still pick it up, as breast cancer would of started in the breast anyway before it would spread to ur underarm lymph nodes. Is ur lump hard or soft? Xx

It feels kind of rubbery and moves across when pressed. A bit sinuee feeling. It’s hard to find. Maybe a bit like a grape texture. You can’t feel it if you do circular movements with flats if fingers but more sideways movements and pressing quite hard. At first I just thought it was part of my arm pit.. So I think that part would have gone in the mammogram. It’s hard to describe but I think if it was hard it would be very easy to find rather than searching for it. The doctor didn’t really say much but she did mention maybe a fatty lump. It is the area that deodorant goes on so inbetween breast and armpit. I have been using natural deodorant for years now. Great stuff called Biologika from Australia. All natural and no heavy metals in it. You have cleared loads of stuff up that I was confused about so thank you so much for that.

Your welcome, I know how scary it is when you find a lump! Yours doesn’t sound very worrying so try and think positive Happy ...... it probably is just a fatty lump like the doc says, maybe it’s always been there but u have only just noticed it......keep me updated on how your appointment goes but try not to stress about it u will be fine xx

Thanks so much for you encouraging words.

i now think I can feel similar the op side in the same place. I am now thinking they are lymph nodes. I feel really encouraged that you have explained about the significance of the clear Mammogramme. Thanks havnt been ill but I am a childminder and lots of the children have been off with fever and coughs so it could be that I am constantly fighting of germs. Also had three wisdom teeth out. I thought there may be similar in the other side but wasn’t sure. I now think there is. The doc did not pick up I. It but they are small so that is probably why. With the anxiety it makes things clouded and hard to be realistic. I slept much better last night so thank you xxx

So glad you had a better sleep! X

And at least if you have felt the same in the other armpit it makes it even more less likely it is anything serious!

Yes I understand what you mean about the anxiety as I get it myself it is awful, my lump was all I thought about day and night, I drove myself mad!

Even common colds can cause enlarged lymph nodes, and they can also appear before you even get sick, There’s so many reasons that don’t involve cancer x but it’s still always worth getting them checked out just to put ur mind at ease xx

I went for examination at breast clinic and it is simply lymph nodes. I did not have the ultra sound as the doc was very sure. She said I was slim and that is why I found them. She said you can’t get cancer In the arm pit only swollen lymph nodes from cancer in the breast. As there were no lumps in the breast and mamo was clear everything is fine. Exactly what you said fisherprice88. Thanks so much your posts have kept me going through this week. Feeling so relieved. I also mentioned to her that I think I have a little health anxiety and she said yes maybe. Thanks again. I wanted to come back with a conclusion as so many posts don’t have one. Xxxx
