Side effects from treatment

I am in my 3rd year of remission and the treatment I received has left me with numerous side effects had this happened to anyone else

  • Hello Pollyana,

    Welcome to the forum.

It's great to hear that you're into your 3rd year of remission although I am sorry to hear that you are still struggling with side effects of your treatment.

I know that some of our members here have talked about ongoing problems once treatment has stopped. If you felt able to share a little more about your symptoms then hopefully some of those members would be able to reply with their experiences and how they have coped.

We do also have a team of nurses here that you can call to talk to who may be able to help with support and advice for you. They are available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040 (free to call from a UK landline).

    Sending our best wishes,

  • I have multiple myeloma & it's left me with chronic back pain, & One side effect of Chemo has been peripheral neuropathy (pins & needles) in my left hand, which is very susceptible to cold so I wear a glove constantly (I heard one little girl ask her Daddy, 'why's that lady wearing only one glove' - I was able to answer her, as I was sitting on an adjacent cafe table. Life can be very frustrating as I'm only 61, but luckily I have a very supportive family, & a carer, who's an angel. I've been in remission just over a year, but the Cancer will return .. No one can tell when though. I just have to go for monthly blood tests to see if any of the 'bad' cells have returned. What sort of life do you lead?

  • Hi

I've had hogkins lymphoma in remission into my 4th year but been left with chronic fatigue in my legs just been diagnosed with chronic eczema got peripheral nerve damage I also suffer restless leg syndrome ,sciatica , osteopenia in my left hip and knee all of which I never had before my chemo/radiotherapy why does no one explain that you could be left with all of this

I can't walk very far I have numerous tablets to take daily and I rely on family and friends to take me shopping as my legs can collapse at any point for no reason

  • I'm able to walk around for about 15-30 minutes, then my back starts to ache & I get breathless. I get restless leg syndrome too, so I try & have 2 , 15 minute walks around the block a day (my cat follows me :-) My family take me out at the weekend, usually to a local park, which I really look forward too. When I dream, I'm always able bodied :-/ .Yesterday I dreamt I was on a kid's scooter , window shopping in Bromley! I pass my time 'Mindful colouring' of cards which has a practical use, & I watch a lot of TV at the same time. Lying in bed atm, but must get up & have my walk before the carer comes.
