Radiotherapy for cancer to the voicebox. Any advice?

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if someone can guide me in what to expect with starting radiotherapy. G'dad is due to start for cancer to the voicebox after 2 failed surgery's. Is there anything I can do or buy to help him through the side effects or make it any easier for him in any way. I know it's gonna be a long and tough 6 weeks and I would be so grateful for any tips

Thank you

  • Hi there - I'm afraid I can't tell you what to expect from radiotherapy as I've no experience of it. Someone here who does know will be along I'm sure to tell you.

I doubt there's anything you can buy for grandad but I'm sure there are things you can do to make it easier for him. Being there & giving him lots of love will help him probably more than you might realise. Before my aunt died of cancer a few years ago she & I just used to sit sometimes holding hands & not talking at all because she was so very tired. I knew she took comfort from my just being there & that helped me too. If grandad has a favourite TV programme & wants to watch it just sit & watch it with him. Just be yourself with him & give him the opportunity to talk if he wants to. Showing him you care (as you clearly do) is what really matters. Do hope this helps you a little bit at least. x
