Post Mastectomy - Improving Wellbeing & Prosthetics

25 Aug 2017 10:07

I am a postgraduate researcher at Plymouth University. My friend's mum had a mastectomy and didn't like her prosthesis so she doesn't generally wear it. This prompted a discussion about how prosthetics could be different.

I am running a project exploring improving wellbeing levels in women post mastectomy, in relation to the external breast prosthesis.

I am speaking to women about the design of the external breast prosthesis - how they feel about it and how they think it can be improved. There are also creative activities as part of the project which involve reimagining the prosthetic breast.

If you are a prosthesis owner/wearer, or have been previously, please contact me if you'd like to hear more about the project and get involved.

Hello Rosie and welcome to the forum.

I know there are quite a few members on the forum that have been through this and hopefully some of them will be in touch soon to get involved and help you with your project.

Kind regards,

Thank you for taking this up. I'm interested and have emailed. So many issues: weight; matching skin tone; versatility e.g. Different type for sports, swimming, availability ....
