Painful Thyroid Nodule

Hi

I had a painful lump on the right of neck. After having two scans and six biopsies (over two appointments) the results are inconclusive. The lump has slowly decreased but now I have a much bigger lump on the left side.

The pain is unbearable. I have a constant headache, pain in my neck and it's difficult to swallow. Coughing and sneezing is so painful.

My thyroid symptoms swing between hypo and hyper so no medication given. I just want my thyroid removed as my quality of life just isn't there anymore.

Can anyone else relate? Pain seems unusual. Has anyone gone private to remove the gland?

Thank you so much in advance.

  • Hello Sue and welcome to the forum

I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling with on going problems with your thyroid. From posts I've read here on the forum it doesn't seem uncommon for people to have inconclusive results and I can imagine that this is really frustrating when you want answers so that an action plan can be put together.

You mention that you're not currently being given any treatment. What has the specialist said will be the next step? Have you discussed surgery with them?

I wonder if it might be helpfu lfor you to talk things through with one of our team of nurses. They may be able to offer some advice and guidance. You can call them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm).

I really hope that you get some answers soon and that things start to improve.

    Best wishes,
