Together we will beat cancer

Oral Cancer Post-Surgery - What would soothe the patient?

19 Nov 2017 23:37

Thank you for reading my post and I wish everyone who is reading this, strength and good wishes.

My Father-in-Law is undergoing surgery in India tomorrow. I'm heading over to be with him and I wanted to know if you know of any non-prescription ways to soothe and help in healing? It could be as simple as a medicated losenge and if you know of any kindly let me know so that I could take it for him.

We are learning a lot about cancer since his diagnosis, and my prayers are with you in your own battle.

Hello rrwins1, and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm sorry to hear about your father-in-law; I hope his surgery goes well today.

We do have quite a few members here who have had different experiences of oral/head/neck cancer so, hopefully, one of them will be along soon to share their experiences of post-surgery recovery. One of our stalwart members @Vatch ‍visits the forum from time to time, so he may be able to give you some advice and point you in the right direction for further info.

We have some information on our website about living with mouth cancer too, which I've linked for you. If you'd like to talk to one of our nurses, you can call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

Safe journey and best wishes,

Cancer Chat moderator

apologies for the delay in my replay ..... that’s what living does to you

i hope a went well with your fathers surgey and by now I guess any mouth sores have cleared up

if not come back and I have a raft of thing to suggest

if so and your father has had a head an neck cancer, then oral hygiene is still important as it’s important to be free from any possible infection

prevention is better than cure

anyway, let us know how your father is getting on please and ask anything if needed

happy new year
