Operation postponed-petrified.

Hello. I've just been diagnosed a few weeks ago with breast cancer. My op is meant to be Thursday but it's been postponed because no one told me I need to stop taking evening primrose and starflower oil.

I cant sleep and feel so sad about it all.

  • Sorry your so scared, stay focused , think I should listen to myself too

  • I know-how you feel. I had a lumpectomy on 25/4/17 and went back to see consultant who told me it hadn't been successful (they thought it was 6mm but once inside, they took 5.5cm but it wasn't enough). Arranged mastectomy for 17/5/17 but after MDT they decided to cancel it and said I should  go for another test...mri biopsy.... in the other breast as they found an abnormality in it in the initial mri. Have to go to a different health authority. Was referred 12/5/17- I have rung them every day to chase up the appointment but every time I am told that my name is not on the system so they can't book me in. Makes me so angry that they are playing with my life. I know for a fact that the referral has been sitting on the new consultant's desk since 17/5/17because they rang my consultant querying some thing on that date. I am sure that if I was the partner/daughter of the new consultant, I'd have been in pronto. First diagnosed on 24th March and its already gone 2months... but it feels like a lifetime! I wish they'd get a shake on and get me sorted....going to be at least another 5+ weeks. Grr!

  • Hi Jane, my name is Sarah, I'm a registered carer from West Lothian.

Just finished reading your comment, I note that you said you're feeling sad about having your operation being post-poned. I've recently shared a similar experience in feeling the way that you are feeling right now, my Dad has just had his operation to remove his Colon Cancer and is currently feeling extremely sleepy from the morphine. I know it's not easy but please try to relax, you as a patient cannot afford to get yourself any more stressed than what you feel right now. If the surgeons had any real cause for concern for your health and general welbeing, they would have operated on you as soon as they could place you in their triage list.

You are in the best of hands. Please try to think positive. You CAN do this!

If you do ever wish to speak, I'm only a message away.

    Take Care

  • Hi Jane,

Have they said when your re-arranged operation will probably be?

Try not to be too worried by the delay. Easy for me to say I know, but a week or two probably won't make any difference in the long term and it is safer to wait until your body has cleansed itself of the active ingredients of the oils. I don't know anything about starflower oil but there is a risk that evening primrose oil can lower blood pressure and cause bleeding, which is why patients on warfarin are advised not to take it.

I hope you get a new appointment date soon.

    Good luck!

    Dave
