Oncologist?

Hi, I had an appointment back in March for a colposcopy. My results came back as CIN3, HPV and severe high grade changes. My LLETZ appointment is booked at the end of May. I was just wondering at what point do they make an appointment for you to see a gynae oncologist? I follow a few groups on Facebook, some of them have had the same diagnosis as me and have had referrals to see a gynae oncologist. My symptoms are bleeding between periods, lower back pain and bleeding after sex. Thanks ️

  • Hello Niarj

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had some abnormal colposcopy results. It's understandable that you may be feeling concerned.

Many hospitals do things differently and it may be that your hospital wants to wait for your LLETZ results before deciding on the next steps in any treatment or monitoring. Presumably, at that point, you will be referred to any additional specialists if it's appropriate for your circumstances.

There's lots of good, evidence-based information available on the Jo's Trust website about abnormal cells and treatment but if you'd like to chat things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm. I'm sure they will be happy to try and answer any questions you have and offer some advice and support.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Jenn, thank you so much for your reply! Thank you, I'll wait and see what happens after my LLETZ in that case. I'm so anxious about it. I may even request a general anaesthetic.
