Non-Melanmos Skin Cancer - on the nose - Radiotherapy

Radiotherapy has been mentioned for my dad's skin cancer on the nose.  Does anyone know how this is given?  Is he strapped down to the bed by his head?

  • Hi Obmik, I can see you've not had a reply from the community yet so I wanted to share some information that might be helpful.

My understanding is that your dad might be given a custom mask to wear if he has his radiotherapy treatment on his nose. This is to stop any movement and to ensure the treatment is directed at the cancer. You can read a bit more about radiotherapy for head and neck cancers here: Having radiotherapy treatment

There may well be someone along soon who's had this treatment that can tell you a little more. In the meantime, if you'd like to talk it through, our nurses are here to listen: 0808 800 4040.

Wishing your dad all the very best with his upcoming treatment.

  • Thanks Helen

He has had radiotheraphy on his chest before and was strapped down by a mesh over his head - he didn't cope very well with this at all!

Hopefully it won't come to this, but I have a feeling it will.
