Need advice on latissimus dorsi flap

HI all

Has anyone here had a latissimus dorsi flap reconstruction on their breast? I have lost two regular implants in a year and now they are suggesting I try this. I can't find anyone who has had it and I have so many questions. How long is the recovery? How long before you can drive? Does feel or look better than regular implant? They want to fill it with an implant. After two rejections, i'm getting worried.

Thanks

Siuin

Thank you so much. I really appreciate it. Your website has been a help already. It seems that this operation isn't that common. I'm meeting my surgeon in January, so now at least I know a little bit more.

  • Hi just seen this do you still need advice? I’m recovering from the same operation now, need any information let me know!

  • Thanks for your reply. I had my operation on February 12th last. It went well, though my skin seemed to remember it had had radiotherapy a year before and reverted to feeling red and burnt for a week or so. THen it recovered. I'm doing my exercises and recovering well, though I have a separate issue with a frozen shoulder that I may have developed due to the radiotherapy. I hope that your recovery is going well. It looks much better than the silicone implant doesnit it?

  • Hi Kessa324

I had a mastetomy in Feb 2018 and failed implant due to infection and had 2 additional surgeries to remove implants last one in  Sept 2018.  My surgeon is now recommending lassimus dorsi flap but I wanted to hear from anyone who has had this and if it was worth it.    Can I ask your age and I am 60  I am fit and active and work full time, but I am thinking should I just get on with life.  I am very scared about the operations expecially as I got infections previously.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

  • hi Johanna sorry I’ve only just seen this, I’m 37 now, I personally went and had the surgery because of my age and I love swimming and got sick of wearing a swim boob, I had the lassi flap done and a reduction done in my other breast, it took 8 hours to do, I had 4 days in hospital afterward wasn’t to bad, just bad the usual pain from operations, and the drain were more of a pain, I went on to have my nipple removed so I could have tattoos I got a infection with that surgery but not with the lassi dori flap, I can go in to more detail if you want to inbox me if you can on here Kerry

  • Hi Kezza

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner but other family problems to sort out!  I would like to talk to you in more detail but I dont know how to inbox you as you suggested as I am new to this.

    Thanks a mill

  • Hi

i feel for you after various rejections etc .

i had a mastectomy April 5th this year , with immediate LD autologous reconstruction.

Op was about 6 hrs and two different surgeons worked on me simultaneously.

My new boob looks fantastic and reacts like a real one to, as I was adamant I didn’t want any implants because of the risk of infections.

of you want to know more please feel free to message me xx

    Hi All

I wrote here looking for advice on the LD reconstruction to my right breast after having had an implant removed from there twice. I  had the operation in February 2018 and I have to say I'm delighted with it. I have recovered all movement in my arm and my  breast and back look very well. Swimming really helped.

Thanks for all the advice I recevied here.

    Siuin.

  • That's brilliant, well done . Xx
