That's such good news Sarah, you now have a plan. I hope all goes well with the treatments. Carol x
Thank you Jolamine.
He did not say the stage but said it was a Lipidic style Adencarcinoma. The nurse just said that means slow growing. It is 2.5 cm right now and a new primary. Everything else has come back clear, brain scan etc. There is only the one tumour.
Im praying they agree to the surgery. I feel soo much better already.
Thank you again. Sarah xxx
What great news that it is a new primary and not a secondary. I remember being so relieved myself when I was told that my second bout was a new primary, as I had convinced myself that it was a secondary.
I do so hope that the surgeons will go ahead with surgery for your mum and, that you don't have too long to wait before she gets it.
Please keep us posted.
I have followed your thread and just wanted to say how pleased I was to see that your mum's cancer is a new primary and she is hopefully going to have a curative operation. I had lung surgery 2 months ago and if you are fit and active like your mum, it is perfectly manageable. I had a pneumonectomy and I already have no awareness of it at all in my daily living.
Good luck and best wishes to you and of course your mum.
Thank you Joy.
Wow 2 months ago.. that is amazing to hear your doing soo well so quickly.
We are hoping they carry out the Lobectomy. Its at the top of her right lung. Her lung function tests are great so hopefully it wont impact her too much.
Did you have keyhole Joy?
I'm soo pleased to hear how well you are doing.. more positive vibes.
Pleased to say we have seen the Thoracic surgeon and he agrees for my mam to have surgery. He thinks they got it early so said yes lets get it out.
Im running with that atm. Keeping as positive as we can.
She has her pre op a week next Wed. Hopefully surgery soon after. Shes having right top lobe lobectomy.
Hope your all ok
Thats excellent news! I'm so pleased for your mum and you. In her situation, a curative operation seems way better than watching and waiting! . Even though I found out after my operation that it was too late after all for it to have cured me, I still feel very lucky that I was able to have it done and I feel it has given me a head start with the treatment. For your mum, it is a different story and hopefully it will actually cure her! I wish her all the best with the operation. I've just seen that I never sent the intended reply to your question. I had a thoracotomy which is what the normally (always?) do for a pneumonectomy. Your mum's procedure should be less invasive I would imagine.
All the best.
Thank you Joy.
Did you have keyhole?
They have said hopefully it will be keyhole but there is a chance on day to open up. They havent mentioned chemo yet so Im trying not to think too far ahead right now.
They said her lung function is very good but will loss 10%.
She admitted yesterday she has been getting a lil breathless if she changes the bed or walks for a while but at 72 i dont know if thats her age!!
How are you doing now?
This sounds like good news. I'm sure that you all feel more relieved now that you know that she can be operated on. If she is having her pre-op next Wednesday, it shouldn't be long after that before she gets her op.
Please let us know how she gets on.
No, what I had is a big cut all around the side of the rib cage towards the back, and then two ribs are sort of jacked open and they go in and bring out the lung containing the tumour that way. It's a big op. ( my cancer was 8x 8.2 x 6.5 cm. the surgeon said it was " a big lump" . I also had a small tumour elsewhere in the same lung.
So if even after all that I'm fine, (just did gentle yoga) then your mum is going to make a full recovery I'm sure. It will just take time. The important thing is to exercise the lungs and keep everything clear. They willl give her breathing exercise to do and encourage her to walk about. Other than that though she will need to rest a lot too. I spent most afternoons on the sofa and try to get her to sleep in the day for a couple of hours.
Still do a lot of resting.
