Misdiagnosed BCC

My GP diagnosed a BCC, I went to see my dermatologist and I've been diagnosed with a SCC. I am petrified, I now know that SCC's have roots and can spread. I know the figures are low but I'm convinced I'm in the 5%. Like others it started off as a spot for quite a few months now it's what has been described by others as a crusty volcano and it's on the tip of my nose. I'm having it removed with a skin graft in 10 days time but I'm a quivering wreck in case it's spread. I don't think I'm the only one that has these fears but I can't seem to stop thinking about it 24/7.

  • Hi Maryjoh and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm sorry that a diagnosis of SCC was confirmed but I'm glad you don't have to wait long for it to be removed.

As you say, the thoughts and feelings you're having at the moment are quite common when finding out about a cancer diagnosis so you're not alone in feeling this way and I'm sure some of our members who have contended with a SCC will be along soon to offer their support and advice.

If you'd like to speak with one of our cancer nurses about what's going on then do be sure to give them a call on 0808 800 4040. They're available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and will do all they can to answer your questions and put your mind at ease.

Good luck with your skin graft Maryjoh. We'll be thinking of you on the day and sending our support your way.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
