Hi Wings,

I'm not a nurse but I am a Stage 3 melanoma patient (since 2009). I'm sorry to hear you are awaiting treatment and that you are in a lot of pain. I'm assuming that they can't start the drug treatment until they've treated the blood clot? Have your team given any indication as to when you may be able to start treatment and have they prescribed any drugs for your pain?

If you are in that much pain and they haven't given you a date yet I would see your GP to get some better pain meds.

It's good that your GP is helping with the pain medication. I hope you get a treatment date for the melanoma drugs soon x

Hello and thanks for posting on the forum,

Unfortunately we have had a few technical difficulties with Cancer Chat which is why we have not got back to you sooner.  I do apologise.

I am glad that you are at last getting some pain medication that will help you.  Unfortunately blood clots can be quite a common occurrence with a new cancer diagnosis.  We do have some information on our website about blood clots which you might find helpful to read.  Have a look here

The doctors probably want to get this under control before they start any treatment.  I wonder whether you have been given a CNS (Clinical Nurse Specialist).  If you have been given one do discuss your concerns with them. They maybe able to give you some information about when they intend to start treatment.

There is a charity called Melanoma UK which you might find quite helpful to contact.  Have a look here

We do have some information on our website about different treatments that are used for melanoma.  It is sometimes quite helpful to have a look at what treatments are available.  Have a look here

I can understand how frustrating it must be for you.  Do try and rely on friends and family for support.  If you would like to discuss any of this with one of the nurses on the helpline then do give us a call. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

Best Wishes,

Catherine
