Mastectomy next week

Hi there!

Thought I’d just say ‘hello’! I’m having a mastectomy next Wednesday, no reconstruction, as I have DCIS (picked up at my first mammogram). Currently, I’m full of the cold so hoping I’ll get rid of that very soon.

  • Hi Scottie

I had a mastectomy in Nov and had a node clearance on Weds. I've also got a cold and that annoying dry, tickly cough everyone seems to have at the moment.  Luckily my anaesthetist was happy to go ahead on Wednesday so I'm all done with sugery now.

How are you feeling about your op? I felt a bit lost which is why this site is so good. I hadn't realised there were so many different test results I'd need to wait for or how sneaky cancer can be. I had no signs to be seen of anything in my lymph nodes pre-op but pathology results afterwards showed it was there which is why I've had node clearance .

There are lots of fantastic,  supportive ladies on this forum so come and have a whinge/moan/vent or giggle any time.

  • Hi ya ..

I had a total right masectomy July 2017 and l didn't look at it, like I was loosing a boob .. but that would be the cancer kicked out my boob ... so now look at my scar as a reminder of the journey I've been on .. and it's like my war wound ... and look at every day as a bonus ... and look at life with new eyes... appreciate the small things ...

There's lots of us breast lasses on here... all with one thing in common... kicking cancers butt... and together, it better watch out, wer fighting back ... you'll never be alone here ... and that's on days that are hard and good days .., we all know every one of those emotions ... you sound like your ready to get your boxing gloves on, and knock it for 6 ... fingers crossed for next week... keep in touch ... Hi Scottie,

Welcome to our forum, although I'm sorry for the reason that has caused you to join us.

I know that it is scary waiting for the results of tests and then surgery. I have had a lumpectomy 9 years ago, followed by a double mastectomy the following year. There really was far less to it than I had expected.

I hope that you get rid of your cold before next Wednesday.

I shall be thinking of you then.

Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thanks everyone for your replies.

I’m absolutely fine about the mastectomy and just hope I’m well enough to have it! I’m slightly anxious about having a general anaesthetic but only as I’ve not had one before. I’ve just been to get my hair cut, have made lots of soup and am trying to tidy up a wee bit. I’m a primary music teacher in a few schools so don’t think I’ll be at work for a while as I play the piano constantly.

I’ve been reading posts on the forum and love how supportive and patient everyone is.

Will let you know how I get on.
