Lymph node biopsy still not back.

6 Nov 2018 18:15

My 14 year old son has been under a heamotologist for a high eosinophil count with no other cause found , during exmination they found he had an enlarged cervical postierior lymph node. Around 2.5cm.   ( we were already aware of this and our gp had discounted it as a “normal but naturally large node”when we had taken him 2 years ago.)

heamatologist did not agree and said it was abnormal  a ultra sound found 6 more enlarged nodes however the all had benign characteristics, but were told the scan is only 90% accurate and with his a typical symptoms a excision also biopsy was required.

he had his op done at a private hospital last Monday,  we were advised by the ward doctor results would take 2 weeks, but then received an email from the ent to advise it would be 5 days.

I have chased the results again today (day 8 ).  But they are still not back.

The anxiety has had me googling which I know I shouldn’t.

So I read that intial test are usually available within the 5 days but further immunohistchemisty test may be needed for further diagnostics.  Which can hold up tests.

My question is. Are these extra tests only needed if they have found something.  As surly if it was clear on the intial tests they would of contacted me to let me know.

Going out of my mind worrying now.

Welcome to the forum Jarna although I'm sorry about the tough time you're having waiting for your son's biopsy results to come back.

Many of our members know how tough this time can be and hopefully some of them will be along soon to offer their support but you're more than welcome to get in touch with our cancer nurses if you'd like to discuss the question you've asked in your post. You can call them Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope you don't have too much longer to wait and that the results bring good news when they come through.

All the best,
