Lung problem

9 Oct 2018 16:49

Please can someone offer some advice. I had chest pain for roughly a year that radiates down my left arm. I have curved nails and back pain. I only got someone to listen last week! I went for an ECG on a treadmill.. all grand. Then a chest x-ray at 10am. By 5pm my GP was on the phone saying they had seen an area of 'tugging' on the cxr which was not suggestive of infection. I went for bloods the next day, fbc and kidneys (?) Today i got a call to say i must attend a ct tomorrow afternoon. I don't know what is going on. I am 37, a mum of 4 and I have never known fear like it.. please can someone talk to me..

Hi and thanks for posting on the forum,

You sound like you have been through a lot . I can understand that it can be worrying waiting to find out what is going on. When an x-ray is not clear it is usual for the doctor to request a CT scan which will hopefully give a much clearer picture.  There are lot's of lung conditions besides cancer which would be unusual at your age, but I think it is human nature to fear the worst.

I know it is very difficult when you are in the grip of fear, but try not to worry too much. Hopefully by now you will have had the scan, but you may still be in the dark about what it showed. You may have an appointment to find out what is going on or perhaps you may be waiting for a phone call. It is horrible having to wait and I hope you are coping with the stress and are sharing it with someone who can be a support.

If you want to talk anything over please do give us a call.  The number to call is freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

Best Wishes,

Catherine
