Lumpectomy and sentinel node surgery

HI I have had the above surgery a week tomorrow and I am quite sore. I find my bra digs into my scar and makes the pain worse so I have taken my bra off to get some relief. I’m taking paracetamol. Is this normal ?

  • Sounds exactly like mine did! It does get better, try a really soft cup bra or my personal favourite, cotton sports bras. You could also try gently massaging the scar as long as it has healed. Use a little very gentle moisturiser or I used bio oil. It’s what works best for you.

  • Hey Rbroadbent. Mine was exactly the same and position of my scar made me shop for a comfy bra for months. I got to know all the brands out there - always a positive!

It will get better as you heal. Keep doing the exercises as that helps the drainage system to get going as well as what rileyroo said. Keep going and take it easy. Keep us posted.

    Hi,

I had similar problems after my lumpectomy, as have many others.Your breast won't have had time to heal yet, so it is still early days. I was advised to get a soft bra, without any wires and advised to get something like a teen or first bra. I had quite large breasts, so this didn't really work for me. I eded up wearing nothing for a few weeks and then returned to a pure cotton total control with no underwire.

You may find that you don't need Paracetemol if you don't have a bra digging in.

I hope that everything heals up soon and you can get back to normal.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • I found some great softcup brantops in Asda, plenty of coverage but didn’t irritate the skin.
