Lump on vulva

21 Aug 2019 12:27

I’m 18 and for over a year now I’ve had a lump just above my vaginal opening. I always assumed it was a cyst because it matched the description of a Bartholins cyst (I think that’s what they are called) so I ignored it. It didn’t cause any problems up until now. It’s become very uncomfortable to sit down on and it is tender and sore. I know I should get it checked out but I’m a student and can’t afford to make visits to the doctor as often as I need. It feels like it’s filled with air or fluid like a cyst and i can sort of squish it to a certain extent, it’s not rock solid. I just wanted some opinions on how serious this is or if there is anything I can do at home to relieve the discomfort and pain, or if anyone has had anything similar. Thanks

Lump on vulva

Hello and thank you for posting a question. I am sorry to learn about the painful lump.

Firstly I don't think that this is likely to be anything serious like cancer, as cancer in the vulva is almost unheard of in some one of your age. Although I cannot tell you what is wrong, I think that there is a good chance that you are right in working out what is the matter. But regardless of the difficulties do see your GP to be on the safe side. Also the cyst may be infected and this may be why you have pain. You might need treatment or antibiotics.

As for home remedies, I am not really an expert at non cancerous conditions and do not really know what to suggest. So do find time to see your doctor, I can appreciate that this may be embarrassing for you, but it is the best way to sort things out.

Do get back to us if you have any other questions.

Kind regards,

Jean
