Together we will beat cancer

Lump in my left side

8 Jan 2019 17:40

Just before Christmas I discovered a lump below my belly button and to the left. I went to see my GP straight after the New Year and he has referred for blood tests including the one for Ovarian cancer and an ultrasound.... both of which I am having tomorrow.  Frankly I'm frightened.  I've mostly always been in good health and fit. I'm 70 and still go to Keep Fit and Zumba classes and walk the dog for an hour every day.  My GP initially thought I had a urine infection but I insisted he felt my belly and when he did his face changed.  He was obviously worried and that has made me worry even more  I'm trying to keep positive but it is hard.  I realise it could be something other than ovarian cancer but I can't help thinking the worse.

What happens at the ultrsound ?  Is it like when you have pregnancy one over your belly ?  And how much information will it give the doctor ?

Will my GP then refer me to a specialist at the hospital and how long will that take ?

Wish there was more information.

Hello jdr,

As I noticed your post didn't have a reply yet I just wanted to stop by and ask how you're getting on. You mentioned you were to have some tests this week and I wonder how did they go?

If you are still worried and feeling like not given enough information I thought that it might be a good idea for you to contact one of our cancer nurses and ask questions that may be dancing in your mind. They are available on this number 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday, between 9 a.m - 5 p.m.

I'm still waiting for any resultson my blood tests and ultrasound. I'm tryng to keep positive but am not sleeping well at all.  I went to my Zumba class today and think it did me good to get out and be active but I am struggling not to be weepy when talking to people even though not about my health.

The ultrasound was uncomfortable but not excessively so and over qute quickly

Thank you
