Lump and possible infection

21 Jul 2019 19:13

Please can you help? I have recently been investigated due to getting recurrent water infections. I have had an ultrasound and cystoscopy test. Both have come back clear. These tests were on Tuesday. On Saturday morning, I noticed a pea sized lump near my urethra on my labia minora. Also I'm experiencing pain when I am urinating. I'm unsure if both these are related to the cystoscopy or if these could be linked and be something more serious. When I have googled my symptoms it suggests vulva cancer. I'm 36 so I know age wise it's unlikely but it doesn't stop me worrying!! Has anyone had a similar experience?

Lump and possible infection

Hello and thanks for posting on the forum,

I am sorry to hear about the different investigations that you are going through.

We can't diagnose why you are getting your frequency but it maybe when you had the cystoscopy you developed a UTI (urinary tract infection) or the cystoscopy may have just irritated your bladder.  It may well settle down in the next day or so.

Do make an appointment with your GP.  It maybe that they might ask for a sample of your urine to see if you have an infection.  Do try and drink plenty of fluids because if it is an infection it will help flush it through.

You also mention a pea sized lump near your urethra.  This is most likely to be a Bartholins cyst or a blocked hair follicle. The NHS have written some information about this which you can look at here

I would have thought that it would be unlikely to be vulval cancer.  I am sure that the doctors would have picked up on an abnormalities when they performed your cystoscopy.

I do hope that this has helped reassure you.  If you would like to talk any of this through then please do give us a ring. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

Best Wishes,

Catherine
