Long lasting effects of chemotherapy and brain surgery

My husband was diagnosed with brain cancer in May 2017, he had a craniotomy to remove the tumour then went on to do 6 weeks radiotherapy and chemotherapy.. he had a short break then opted for another 12 months of chemotherapy.. he finished chemo September 2018.. we are now just over 12 months since he finished treatment.. I won’t lie it’s destroyed our lives!

Hes half the man he used to be his tiredness is beyond anything I can deal with as his wife he spends most of his time in bed atleast 5 days out 7.. is this normal.. he also feels sick a lot of the time.. I struggle most days watching him be like this! Will it ever end.. and on top of this I have nightmares the tumour will reoccur! Thankyou for reading! Sx

  • Hello SDC and welcome to the forum.

I'm so sorry to hear that you and your husband are still struggling with the side effects of his treatment a year after it finished. It sounds like you are in a very difficult situation.

You don't mention in your post if the tiredness and nausea has been discussed with his Dr's or nurse. Please do speak to them if you've not already. They should be able to prescribe something to help with the nausea. If he's currently taking any medication, then they will be able to review things to see if that is contributing to the tiredness that your husband is dealing with.

I would certainly think about giving our team of nurses a call for some advice and support. I'm sure that they will be able to give you some guidance. You can call them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm).

It would also be worth you chatting to your GP about how you're struggling to cope with everything. They may be able to offer you some support or signpost you to services that can help.

I hope that things improve for you both soon.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
