Life after cancer treatment

Hi

In 2014 I had chemotherapy, mastectomy and radiotherapy,I now take tamoxifen daily.I managed to battle through the treatment and recovery with help from my amazing family.I returned to work, but I work with children and have struggled due to the physical aspect of the job and fatigue.I have since had spinal problems which my physiotherapist thinks it's due to the affect of chemotherapy and I feel guilty that due to the fatigue and spinal problems I am off sick from work again and my family have to help me again. I am worried that I am going to loose my job due to all these health problems, but I am also worried that I am going to struggle with the job if I do return to work.

Has anyone had any similar issues ?

  • Hi clouds, and welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear you're feeling so fatigued at the moment.

I'm sure someone with similar experiences will be along soon to share their experiences. In the meantime, though, I thought it might be helpful to share some information that Macmillan has on their website about Going back to work. It includes advice on treatment side effects, as well as phased returns to work and reasonable adjustments.

We also have a team of friendly cancer information nurses who you can talk to, if you have any questions: 0808 800 4040 (Mon - Fri, 8am - 5pm).

I can see you've also joined in with other discussions, too, which is great. I hope you get some good support here - do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

    Helen
