laryngectomy: Does a lost voice threaten your identity?

5 Feb 2018 13:10

I am interested in gaining some perspectives of laryngectomy patients who have lost their voice and using an alternative form of communication to whether gaining a new voice or losing your original has threatened or enhanced your original identity in some way. In terms of your regional accent, intelligence, age, gender, religion, race.

I would appreciate any comments on the matter. These comments will be anonymously and confidentially used as part of my msc dissertation research and only shared with the university. If you would like further information on my research please e-mail me at: hazrae@dundee.ac.uk

please feel free to access my questionnaire, any reply to any question will be of great value and can be accessed at: https://docs.google.com/document/d/17dHgBVPdt9FAc38PGsv95PYbp8RMfRahuTbS...

Many thanks.

I can't speak for loss of voice but being disabled/ill can be very isolating. Many a time I feel as if the world's carrying on around me and that I'm invisible or not a part of it.

Thankyou for responding, I am very grateful for your insights although you cannot speak for a loss of voice your insights prove very similar to those that have which is interesting.

Hi all,

As most of you are aware I am currently conducting research to learn about your experiences of laryngeal cancer. I have now created a online questionnaire as many of you had trouble accessing and completing my questionnaire. All responses are anonymous and information about your involvement and the study can be found at the link below where the questionnaire can be completed. any  responses will be valued and could help inform speech and language therapists in the future. if you have any questions about the study don't hesitate to contact me (contact details are attached to the questionnaire). please see the link for the questionnaire:
