I’m worried about some lumps

Hi, I have a lump above my breast, in my arm pit and underneath my breast. They feel hard and painless and quite large, you can see the one above my breast and it's quite noticeable. I've only had them for a few months. I went to the doctor to get them checked and I felt quite dismissed? Being 19 it was quite a nerve racking experience anyway, well I imagine it is for anyone, and my GP was off so I had a male doctor, he acknowledged the lumps but just said 'it's not on the breast tissue it's probably just a change in your rib cage' and that was it. My mind isn't any more at rest and I'm wondering whether I should go back and insist another check up? I've looked into it and I can't think of any reason why my ribs would change. I'm not sure what to do but I'm really worried, quite a few members of my family have died of cancer or have it. Has anyone ever had lumps like this before? TIA x

  •  Hello,

Being only 19 means you're at low risk for having a cancer (a doctor I know said to me that they haven't had a patient with breast cancer who was under 25 in a while now), the lumps could be benign and if doctor said it's not the breast tissue, he's probably right.

However, sometimes doctors can be quite ignorant, because of the fact I stated earlier - you're young and they just assume it's nothing. I don't know how those lumps are looking (lumps from breast cancer differ from those that are present because the changes in the rib cage), but if you're scared and anxious, I would advice you to go and do an ultrasound of your breasts just in case.

     Wish you well! x
