I'm really scared

On January 8th I had a 3.5cm lump removed from my breast which they believed to be a fibroadenoma. I was told not to worry and that they'd send it to the lab and send the results to me in the post (it says this in my discharge notes that no routine outpatients appointments will be made and I was told multiple times that I'd get them via letter too). However I've now been told I've got an appointment at the hospital to come in and get my results and I'm really scared that this means the lump has turned out to be cancer. I've only just turned 20 so I'm really young but it's really worrying me. Is there any other reason I could be called in to get my results in person? The appointment isn't until February 12th so it will be a really worrying few weeks.

  • Hi Emmalouisaaa
It's natural to be feeling worried whilst waiting for results. I can see that you've mentioned in previous posts that the Consultant was very confident that the lump wasn't anything to worry about. Given your age it would be rare for it to be cancerous.

There are lots of reasons for breast lumps and sometimes Dr's would rather speak face to face with a patient to give them news and to be able to ask any questions that the patient may have.

I know from the many. many posts here on the forum it's very typical for patients to get news directly from the Dr rather than by post or even over the phone so please try not to worry too much over the next couple of weeks.

If you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses then give them a call on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm). I'm sure they will be able to offer some support and reassurance.

    Best wishes,
