Hysterectomy plus for endometrial cancer

3 weeks post surgery now, still painful moving around, thought I'd be improving daily but feel stuck .Brufen three times daily, takes edge off. Is this usual? Guidance booklet makes me feel a failure!! Given up on the booklet as it seems unrealistic to me anyway!

Decided against radiotherapy, as so worried about side effects, rather have quality of life. Anyone had internal radiotherapy who can give me an idea about the side effects and how quickly they progressed with walking after surgery?

Thanks for your experience sand thoughts!

  • Hi After my surgery I tried to walk a little every day on top of round the house. The first was just down the street a couple of houses and back did this twice a day going a little further each time. Dont forget you have to get back so stay within your limit. It takes time but you really have to persist. Try not to walk bent over but support yourself with your arm across. Within six weeks I was walking well and almost back to normal except for the odd twinge. It probably took two months before I could walk a few miles but then I had started chemo. As to internal radiotherapy I did not have that I had chemo followed by external radiotherapy. The external radiotherapy plays havoc with your bowels and you really cannot stray far from a toilet. They do give you tablets to help. This has taken a while and I would say I am still not back to normal (over 2 years later) but as long as I am careful what I eat - not to much fruit I am fine but always travel with tablets just in case. Just remember you have had major surgery and everything is still settling down.
  • Thank you so much, I will push myself to walk as you say. Glad you're doing well! Xx
