Hpv positive - does this mean my partner has cheated?

Hi all

I tested positive for hpv and have abnormal cell changes

in the last 7 years I've never had any smear problems

Ive just had a colposcopy and biopsies done waiting for results

but does this mean my partner has cheated as I've never tested positive before now

please help

  • Hello Kelly1981

I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling worried following a recent cervical screening result. I can see that Minska has already replied to you on another post but I wanted to just drop by and say HPV is not a sign that your partner has been unfaithful. Although most people clear HPV within 2 years, the virus can stay in your body for many years – even decades – without causing any problems. That means you may never know you had it.

You may find it interesting to read about HPV on the Jo's Trust website. Hopefully, it will give you some reassurance.

    Best wishes,

  • So it means I've had it years then as it's never shown on a smear result before

never had a problem with any and had regular for many years as I'm 40 this year

    im

    so worried about my results

    thanks

  • Hello Kelly1981

It's impossible to say when you may have caught the HPV virus. It can lay dormant for many years. It's clear from your posts that you're anxious about things. Can I suggest that you give our team of nurses a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm. They will be more than happy to talk things through with you and try and answer your questions clearly and give you some reassurance. Alternatively, you can call the Jo's Trust helpline number which is in the link in my earlier response.

    Try not to worry.

    Best wishes,
