How can I best support my friend

My best mate has been diagnosed with liver and spinall cancer. The cancer is in the bone of the spine and so is unoperable. She's 61. She did 10 days of oral chemo but suffered really bad side effects. They're starting her again on a reduced dose.

She had huge mouth ulcers last time.  Has anyone got any tips on how best to manage them.

Also how can I best support her?

Many thanks

  • Hi  ugly bug

Hospital/local chemist should b able to help with ulcers.  Help for your friend. I'd go for the practical. What does she find a problem. I have problems changing beds ironing  an my heart sinks if I'm given a bunch of flowers changing the water is difficult when feeling rough and my arms don't work too well  Ask her what she needs  she's a lucky lady to have you

my curtains need washing and ironing and rehung it's not going to happen  lol

good luck to you both  X

  • Hello Uglybug,

I just wanted to stop by and welcome you to our forum.

I'm sorry to hear that your best friend has been diagnosed with cancer but I'm glad to hear she can count on a good friend like you to help her at this difficult moment.

You might want to have a look at this useful site called Live Better With, there you'll find are quite a few options that might make your friend's life a bit more comfortable when it comes to mouth problems such as ulcers and sores.

I hope this can be of some help.

    Best wishes to you both,
