  • Ray it seems these days no one cares my friend. I've been I'll in lots of pain now for 7 months I lost 2stone in 4 weeks now total loss is 3 and a half. So much pain so much worry ! So many visits to gp who just keeps telling me I have cancer phobia and anxiety and offering me anti depressants of which I refuse. But I keep begging him to send me for tests, but no joy. And I just don't know what to do anymore. I have pain in upper tummy so bad under my right ribs under left ribs centre upper stomach hurts like hell. Weakness tiredness to the point where I've lost my job and losing everything. All because my gp will not refer me to have tests ect my solos are yellow and loose and sometimes explosive. I'm in a state and no one gives a hoot ray no one. And I just want o know if I have it or not !!! I've not even been offered one pain killer ? It's like my gp is deaf so I'm ot going to bother going anymore. Instead I've contacted a solicitors firm last week who feel I ave a case against the nhs for clinical negligence and are coming to visit me ! People and the nhs only care about one thing ray ? MONEY and that includes your energy supplier !! It's a sad way to leave this earth, feeling like all you were ever worn was what was in your wallet !!! So I feel your bitterness my friend !! God bless you ray and what are or were your symptoms ? Andy.
  • Hi ray

It is hard to keep warm when you have cancer, and you are skint. However there is some money available via charities often as a one off grant payment. Do you have a local cancer drop in centre, often sponsered by your hospital / Mcmillan etc. If so they would be able to point you in the right direction. Also have you spoken to your power company, unbeleivably they may be able to offer you some help. All the best mate.

  • Hi andyfin

Some GPs are better than others. How about changing surgery and doctor, even at your present surgery you are entitled to a second opinion. Sounds like you definately got something seriously wrong with you although it may not be cancer.

You are correct that many people INCLUDING YOU! only care about one thing MONEY. Sueing the NHS only reduces the amount of money available to treat people. Actually I have found the vast majority of those working in the NHS have the care of their patients as their first priority and money comes far down the list.

  • @Andyfin,

Surely you would be better off going to see a different doctor than an ambulance-chasing solicitor?! A solicitor won't be able to give you pain relief, any damages which might be awarded will drain money away from your local NHS service and the solicitor will undoubtedly take a large proportion of it in legal fees.

f you are in pain, why not simply go to the nearest NHS Walk-in Centre and explain your situation to them - they are open 24/7. You are entitled to a second opinion and at the very least some pain relief.

GPs are only human and sometimes get things wrong, however they also have to deal with an awful lot of people who are worried unnecessarily. If the second doctor advises that you may have a cancer phobia, please seek help for that condition. It is just as real as cancer and can cause physical symptoms due to the high levels of stress caused.

By the way, I find your statement that "People and the nhs only care about one thing ray ? MONEY " more than a little offensive. I worked for many years for the NHS and the very last thing on the minds of the clinical professions is MONEY.

I hope you soon find relief from your condition.
    Dave

  • Ray,

So sorry to hear about your condition - good luck with the treatment.

Just a thought but have you applied for PIP yet? This benefit isn't means tested and would be backpaid to the date of your cancer diagnosis - it would help pay any extra fuel bills.

I was lucky enough to be advised that I was entitled to this benefit by our local MacMillan benefits advisisor - who had the claim fast-tracked for me at the higher rate as I had a lousy prognosis. Once you are on PIP you are entitled to a blue badge - which is handy when visiting the hospital for treatment or appointments..

    Good luck
    Dave
