Hello

Hello, my name is Bernie.  I was diagnosed with a tumour in my esophagus in June 2017.  The tumour was removed by surgery on 3rd October and I was discharged from hospital on 24th October.  I would like to communicate with anyone who has been diagnosed and had the operation.  It would be helpful to learn of the journey to recovery.  I am 65 years of age.  I was active and in part time employment up to the date of diagnosis and I am now coming to terms with 'retirement'

Many thanks

Bernie

  • A warm welcome to Cancer Chat Bernie.

I'm sorry to hear you were diagnosed with a tumour in your oseophagus last year but really glad to see that you were able to have surgery and were discharged from hospital in October.

I've had a quick look through the forum and although I haven't found anyone that exactly matches your experience I did want to put you in touch with other members - [@davek]‍, [@Ballawheels]‍, [@Ljb81]‍ and [@Rdee3]‍ - that have experience of oseophageal cancer and may be to help you learn the journey of recovery.

Hopefully some of them will pop by soon to say hello and share their experiences with you but do feel free to have a look through the forum using the 'search forum' option in the blue bar above to find, and join in on, other discussions that are similar to yours.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Bernie,

As Steph has said, I have Oesophageal cancer but sadly I was unable to have an operation as, unusually, mine had grown outwards from my oesophagus and was wrapped around my aorta.

I hope someone comes online with the experience you have had.

    Best wishes for your recovery
    Dave

  • Thanks Steph.  I look forward to making contact with fellow oseophageal cancer sufferers.  I am starting physio next week and hopefully this will be of benefit.  I am looking forward to some warm spring weather to enable me get out and about and take up walking again!

    Regards

    Bernie

  • Hello Dave.  Thank you for your good wishes.  I am sorry to hear that you cannot have the operation.  Fortunately I was diagnosed early and the operation appears successful.

    Regards

    Bernie

  • Good luck with the physio next week Bernie, I hope it goes well.
