Can I help you with anything?

  • Hi,

I had a PET scan, it wasn't bad. Seems like I had to do some fasting as preparation. It didn't hurt or take too long.  Afterwards I did have to stay away from people and my pets due to radioactive dye they put in. Hope this helps.

  • Hi

i have had 2 in the last 8 months for tonsil cancer. Pet ctbscan top of head to past groin.

in my case I could only drinkmplain  water 6/hours before no food and no flavoureddrinks as u are e injectedcted with a radioactive sugar solution.

younwill be asked to arrive 15 mins before appointment as each injection is made to your height and weight. Then a cannula is inserted and 10 mins later specialist nurse comes in with a yellow n black box and put the serum into your cannula and then cannula outbyiu have to lie as stillmas you can l for 1 hour to allow the serum to circulate with it having Radioactiv  sugars they search out  any cancer cells that can’t be detected by any other means . Yiuncan sip water and visit the loo. Then youbare taken tintye scanner which isn't anywhere near as noisy as the mri. Lie down head in a rubber block you get wrapped up and 20/30 mins later after the doughnut has scanned yiu it’s iver, yiu arevthen free to leave inwas told keep away from pregnant ladies and children for 8;hours .

    good luck

  • Hi!

I guess you have already searched what the procedure consist of, but anyway I think here you can have a really detailed explanation on how it is made.

  • Hi you will be fine,  I had a PET scan on Thursday , like you I didn't know what to expect.  Have had MRI scans before and didn't like it as I am very  claustrophobic but this is between a MRI and a CAT scan so it's not so enclosed which I felt more happier with.  It takes about 2 hours for mine most of the time just sitting waiting for the stuff to get around the body.  I have throut cancer. So was only in the scanner for about 30 minutes with no pain or side effects.  Nothing to worry about you will be fine. If you wish to message me that's fine.

    Take care Paul
