Together we will beat cancer

Happy Easter from the Cancer Chat team

Hello everyone,

A very happy Easter to you all from the Cancer Chat team. I hope you enjoy a nice break and lots of Easter treats. When I think about Easter, I have to guiltily admit chocolate is the first thing that comes to my mind. "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get" - we all remember this quote from the film Forrest Gump. Personally, I like dark chocolate the most. What about you? What type of chocolate is your favourite? I would be curious to find out. Or are you being careful at the moment, with everything that's been on the news, not to eat too much sugar?

Perhaps some of you are following a diet where you are not allowed any chocolate or suffer from diabetes so you are having to monitor how much you can eat. What nice treats will you be having instead this Easter? I guess there is nothing like having time off with your family, reading a good book, going for a nice walk with your dog, all these non-caloric pleasures you don't need to feel guilty about.

I look forward to reading all your stories and feel free to share photos of your favourite Easter treats. I am also thinking of those affected by cancer this Easter who may be finding it difficult to relax - my thoughts are with you and I hope this forum keeps you company when you need it the most.

Best wishes,

Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator

Hi Lucie,

Thank you and a happy Easter to you too. I want to share a story with you about Mrs B. A few years ago I bought her a chocolate owl from Waitrose. She just couldnt bear to eat it as it looked so nice. In the end it was way past its sell by date and she had to get rid of it. She was quite upset by it despite me telling her it wasnt an ornament. But I did get her a small 4" fluffy owl from poundland a few days ago to make up for it. Me, I have just bought some nuts, albeit chocalate coated peanuts; well what did you expect knowing me ha ha.

Hope you and your fellow moderators, nurses and backroon staff all have a relaxing well earned break

Thank you Brian, have a lovely break too with Mrs B. Your story made me laugh! Lucky Mrs B getting a chocolate owl from Waitrose AND a fluffly owl from Poundland.

You won't believe it but  I almost wrote in my original message "Brian, I bet your treat won't be chocolate but nuts" but I see you managed to combine nuts and chocolate. Chocolate-coated peanuts must be delicious. Unfortunately nuts are banned in my house due to my daughter's severe nut allergy.

I guess you have eaten them all by now Happy

Hi Lucie,

No I still have some left,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, but not many ha ha.

Without nuts, I would just wither away. You can see why Mrs B oftel refers to me as Cyril the Squirel

Take care, best wishes as always, Brian

Happy Easter to you and all the Cancer Chat team.  I am also a fan of dark chocolate but try to keep it to a minimum.  In that way I really enjoy it when I do sneak it into the shopping basket.  My weakness at the moment is not so much the eggs or bars but our local 'hot choc' cafe where it is made with proper chocolate and you have choice of dark, milk or white!  Of course, to compensate I always visit the gym either before or after  my treat so in my head I am being good really ha ha.

My Mum has Type 2 diabetes and whilst she does enjoy chocolate sometimes her Easter request was for some nice soaps so I have bought her three different fruity scents which I will pop in over the weekend.

Have a lovely weekend.  Jules x

Now that's very virtuous Jules to go to the gym before or after your treat. You definitely deserve your hot chocolate then. The soaps are such a good idea for someone who has diabetes.

Enjoy a bit of dark chocolate this weekend Wink
