Going out of my mind with worries about lymphoma

Hi all,

I suppose I am after some sort of advice as I'm terrible for googling symptoms and every result just seems to tell me something awful is wrong with me. I'm 26 and otherwise fit and healthy.

Around 7 weeks ago I went to my GP as I had a lump come up on my neck that was painful to touch. GP said it was an enlarged lymph node and that it wasn't concerning to her but to go back after 6 weeks if it hadn't gone.
It hadn't gone after 6 weeks so I went back. GP said it still wasn't concerning to her and that apparently stress can be a factor, and I've been very stressed at work the past few weeks. I've also had another slightly enlarged node come up on the other side of my neck that the GP noticed but again, wasn't concerning to her. I don't have any other symptoms, no weight loss, sweats etc but I've read online that one symptom ca be pain after drinking alcohol. At the weekend I drank way too much, had no pain at the time but the next day and also today I have really tender neck (on both sides), base of my skull and shoulders - they are so tender to touch and sore. I'm climbing the walls worrying, I only went to the doctor a week or so ago and she told me not to worry but I feel myself really wanting to go back again as I just can't settle.

Any advice would be appreciated, I know nobody on here can diagnose but I feel really alone!

  • Hello

I havent been through whats happening to you - but first thing you have contacted someone really early and whatever you feel no matter what someone tells you is valid and dont feel silly for it. My glands have come up for no reason - sometimes its a cold other times its change of life. My armpits are now apparently puffy due to hormones.  How our body copes with things is sometimes a mystery and lymph usually means you are fighting something although it can be a cold or a virus you dont see any other symptom of. My armpit used to come up after flu jab. Key thing is if its bothering you go back. I guess you can have blood tests that will check basics like white cell count and at least give some idea. xxxx

  • I had lymph nodes like that around your age, for no reason, they went down eventually. It was an infection and a few other people had the same thing. We didn't have the internet then, and I never heard about lymphoma,  and therefore didn't have the worry!

My gran drank a lot and it does cause a range of problems.
