Hi. I am new to the forum. My first post. I am 41. During a GP appointment I mentioned to my GP that I had trouble swallowing intermittently. He quickly refered me for an upper endoscopy. That was 3 weeks ago. The procedure went well. They took biopsies from proximal, mid and distal positions and some from the stomach. They said there were "no lumps or bumps" they thought I could have Eosinophilic oesophagitis in the distal area. Just as they entered my oesophagus they took a few biospsies as they said the area didn't look right. The endoscopists and the assistant said the word squamous but could this just mean the lining of my oesophagus they were talking about? As they didn't say they suspected cancer. I still haven't had any biopsy results. Would I have heard by now if there was something sinister? I rang the endoscopy department last week (I dont have a gastro consultant) the secretary said the results were on the endoscopists desk and I would get a results letter soon once she looked at them. Am I right in thinking that this is a good sign? Sorry for the rambling post.
Welcome to the forum. Unfortunately I don't have any medical expertise so I'm unable to advise on what this might mean or about the potential wait for results. I would suggest trying not to read too much into what the wait might or might not mean.
If you have any particular concerns or questions about the process, or about any medical terms, our nurses are available to speak via 0808 800 4040 (Mon-Fri, 9-5).
I hope you receive your results soon. I also hope you find this forum useful - do feel free to browse other threads to see if there are others who've posted about similar experiences.
Wishing you the best,

I was diagnosed with stomach cancer in August, i received a phone call within a week of the endoscopy and biopsies being taken asking me to attend an appointment the next day. In my experience most people receive the results quite quickly if it’s bad news, my husband waited a good few weeks for his results and all was fine
Hope that helps a little
Hi im 45, had 3yr projectvile vomit had a endscopy 27th feb was told that day gastritis non erosive and 6biopsies taken well today i rang told report in on
5th march but not seen by consultant including 5th an today thats 5days not read......... same boat as you was told once read ill be wrote too surely if C it wouldnt just be sat there
Thank you for your reply. Yes, I was hopefully thinking that if it was bad news it wouldnt just be sitting on their desk. The waiting is just horrific. I have left a message again today to see if I can chase up where they are. I hope your results come through quick Charlotte.
Hi. Thank you for taking the time to reply. I am sorry to hear your news wasn't good. I hope that your treatment etc is going as well as it can. I feel silly worrying about this when so many of you are dealing with a lot worse.
I've had Endoscopy done nearly 4 and half weeks, 6 biopsy, was very traumatic was supposed to sedated and experienced everything, on top of that I havent recieved any letters from the hospital, so I called and asked for results, she said i have to make you appointment as we recieved a letter, i asked again so you have the results she just said you should of recieved a letter, the doctor can give you a copy of the letter from the hospital so i said that it must be bad news then she didn't reply.
My systems has gone so i don't no what to think, just have to wait till tomorrow now even more stress, why don't the doctor call you when they get results from hospital, or send a letter, in proper stressing, as they should of contacted me sooner to come to the surgery???
hope you are well!
Do you mind me asking what the endoscopy and biopsy was for? I'm trying to digger out why my ENT consultant hasn't offered me the biopsy after suffering for 4 months.
Hi my problem I was vomiting vilanlantly Acid reflect when lying down, I could only eat 2 or 3outhfuls and I was full and in serve pain, on the top of my stomach, felt like the food was stuck, then it came back up, I posted a lost of body mass but my weight was 66(10st 4.
I was rushed into hospital with serve dehydration and serve food Poisoning, Campylobacter Specie, which I was put on a drip, 2wks later I was given Emergency Endoscopy, the systems has gone, I am eating more only was sick once since then, havent been out of the country so unsure how that happened, but the small amount of eating had been going on for about 2yrs, but got worst only noticed when I losed the body mass, went down to size 10 clothes from size 14.
Hope that have helped a little
I will no the results today and will post the results.
Nope today was a waste of time, the Doctor still havent recieved the results, all they received after I received on the day was exact copy of what they did, have to wait for letter from hospital or call surgery in 2wks times, the Doctor kept saying no news is good news, I just said that do not help the point I havent recieved the results, she then said you can call the hospital, I said will they give me the results over the phone she said no so what is the point in me doing your job, the surgery-doctor suposse to chase up the results, she said well maybe there's a worst patient than you so they are dealing with that, AGAIN that do not give me a answer, it is frustrating I pay into the NHS and it seems they don't really care, I was traumatised by the Endoscopy that was bad enough, and now coming up to 4wks, still no results no medication, just have to wait and wait and wait, surely it doesn't take that long to check the biopsy, I will post what the results when it's in. This is so depressing
I honestly feel for you so much I can't believe they are making you wait even longer! I can't even imagine how annoyed you are. I'm frustrated just waiting for my next ENT appointment. Stay positive though no news is good news. My doctor told me that If there was anything negative in my results then normally a phone call will be made 3-5 days after.
wishing you all the best!!
Thank you all for your reply, I understand no news is good news, only thing is letting my mind understand that.
I am just hoping there isn't a backup on testing and they didn't get to mind yet, I'm sure there cant be that many people are tested for the Same thing as me,
Staying positive will update when I get the results.
Ps.will advise if anyone is going in for Endoscopy do not get the sedation as I was sedated and had the spray, and I remember everything, the medication they gave me didn't work, and I am still traumatic till this day, if was to have this procedure done again, they would have to given me a General Anaesthetic. and I will make it clear if the medication hasn't kicked in, I wouldn't want anyone to go through what I did
It can be very disturbing.
