Eating normally after chemo

I have been having chemo since the end of July and dont finish until January. I was told to eat as a pregnant woman would do and avoid runny eggs, soft cheese, pate, buffets etc.

Once my chemo has finished when can I go back to eating normally again?

  • Hi, I think it's to avoid hospitalisation if you end up with food poisoning.

Be careful -I would still avoid foods for a few weeks maybe a month after as immune system still low.

  • Thanks for your reply Effie.

As soon as you are told you can't have things you want them right? I am desperate for a soft boiled egg, a prawn sandwich, some stilton :-)

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

It would be when your blood counts are normal, (particularly your white cell count). And at least a month since you had the chemotherapy. Do check this out with your GP or hospital chemotherapy team who are familiar with your case. They can guide you.

I hope that this is helpful,
