Donating money to a friend with cancer

25 Aug 2017 14:33

I have a payroll giving account that I set up in a previous job which has a substantial sum in it.  I would like to somehow give this money to a friend of mine who has lymphoma to help pay for non NHS treatments and just to generally take away a little bit of money stress.

As the funds were donated through a payroll giving scheme they can only be used to donate to a registered charity (which she is not).  Are there any charities out there that provide financial assistance to cancer sufferers who I could donate to, who would then grant this money to her?  Obviously I'm not expecting that she would get every penny and that the charity would keep some for their costs etc but even if she gets a portion of it, it's better than nothing.

Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum notmyname although I'm sorry to hear about your friend's diagnosis and the reason you find yourself here.

That is a lovely and thoughtful gesture notmyname so I just wanted to stop by and make you aware of some information we have on our website that may help. It may also be worth contacting Macmillan about this as they are very experienced and knowledgable in the realm of financial matters.

I hope this helps and you are able to find a way to allocate some of the money to your friend soon.

Best wishes to you both,
