Together we will beat cancer

Dads to Remember and Celebrate On Fathers' Day

16 Jun 2019 08:22

Today is a day to celebrate all our dads, and for many of you here it might be a day you have been dreading for a while if you have lost your father whether this was recently or twenty years ago. Our dads will never be forgotten.

This thread is to remember and celebrate all our dads. Feel free to drop a comment about what made or makes your dad so special or an anecdote about your dads that will make us all smile.

Our dads will not be forgotten - thinking in particular of all those who are fighting cancer at the moment.

Warmest wishes to you all,

My First Fathers Day without my Dad today. Not sure how I've survived the last 5 months without him. I would give a leg to just take him for a Father's day treat today. A Cornish pasty and pint it would have been.

Missing him so much today and every other single day.

I will be downing a pint of beer for him later with my sister.

Thinking of everyone today. Thank you for this thread.

Thank you for another lovely thoughtful thread Lucie...

My dad was like a real life B F G ... he was very badly abused for years from a step mum, after his own mum died when he was just 4 .. she had 4 of her own, so dad was her nemesis... she hated him .. and he was born 1910 ... so life was far harder then ... she gave him fat to eat .. no meat  ...full of bruses always .... that we learned from others that knew him ..

Did he grow up passing that crule streak on ... no he was the kindest most wonderful dad ... never raising his voice to us 3 girls .. he did magic tricks , and made up stories, I'd listen too .. then I'd listen with my nieces as they came along .. then I'd get my son to ask him to tell those stories to him, so I could hear them over again ...

He worked down the pit from 14 till he retired .. never a bad word came from him .. all the children loved him .. and just like the B F G ... he adored all children .. he never wanted one of them to hurt as he'd been hurt when a child .. so to my amazing dad ... you've Been gone 20 odd years ... but thinking of you on your daddies day ... bet your still telling your stories and doing magic tricks for all those little ones up there ..

Thank you for being my dad ...  Chrissie ❤❤

I hope the day wasn't too difficult for you RosieApples and that you had that pint of beer in his memory with your sister. It must have been a very emotional day for you both.

What an incredible man your dad was Chrissie. All this suffering he experienced in childhood and yet he was so kind himself despite his traumatic experiences. I can see who you inherited the kind gene from Chrissie Happy
