Hi Karen i guess it was a shock, I was shocked when my blood test psa was 1581 gleason 8 stage 4 over 3 years ago psa is now 0.8 I've had 6 sessions if cemo on permanent hormone therapy living a normal life I'm now 67 my C went from prostate to lymph nodes, spine, ribs and pelvis and one lung lung cleared, C still in rest.. Thanks so much for this post. Had an oncologist appointment this morning with my dad.  It sounds like he is the same stage you describe. On hormone therapy for 3 months psa was over 950 now at 10. Starting chemo in the next couple of weeks. Dad is 73 the outlook didn't seem great. But yours is a positive story.  I have screen saved this for my dad I think it will help.

Hi lou yes hormone therapy can do alsorts i put on two stone and having hot flushes (on medication for flushes) only way to lose weight was to stop injections, just started leg pains side effects injection specialist says, i was working till the end of last year metal fabrication and welding but had to retire to look after my disabled wife 24 /7 now,, it's shame, working kept my mind of the C, still not much choice, best wishes.

It is difficult to say what could be causing this, whether it is the cancer or the treatments, as I'm not a doctor, but my Dad was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer three years ago, and he is still doing well today. I remember when he was first diagnosed, he had lost a lot of weight, and had looked different than the Dad I knew. However, once he started treatment he started to feel better. 

Just a question, when was your dad diagnosed and how is he feeling now (just mean how long between time frame)? Has it been a couple months that he has been on this treatment? I was thinking it could be the cancer making him tired, and maybe the treatment would take a little time to work? i'm not really sure though. I remember my dad saying he felt better a couple weeks after he started his treatments. 

I would say it probably looks really bad in your mind right now, but my dad is still here after 3 years. Just try to live in the moment as much as possible. There are many treatment options that people can use in Stage 4 prostate cancer. I've been told they eventually stop working, but there's always another one to try. I'm feeling a lot better now than I felt three years ago when my dad was diagnosed. It still sucks, but I think I'm in a better place emotionally and mentally.
